Jose and Vanessa’s Vibe
Jose and Vanessa Herrera are the founders of Vibe Coaches. Vanessa and Jose met at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) while Vanessa was pursuing her master’s degree. After Vanessa’s graduation she moved to take her first position in higher education as a student affairs professional. Vanessa fell in love with her first position in housing where she could support college students outside of the classroom. In the beginning Vanessa and Jose spent a lot of time traveling to see each other and they began a new tradition of visiting colleges during their trips. On each trip they bought an ornament that would one day decorate their Christmas tree as a married couple. Little did they know their engagement and marriage would happen when Vanessa was working at her dream school; the University of Miami (UM).

Two days after getting engaged Jose and Vanessa moved into the residence halls at UM. For Jose this was huge deal! He was an avid college football fan and could now eat in the dining hall with his favorite players. Living on a college campus came very naturally for Jose having previously worked in the K-12 and higher education setting. Jose worked at FAU and St John Paul Academy. At St. John Paul Academy, Jose served as the Director of Development where he began an ambassador program for high school seniors. He spent time connecting high school seniors with local professionals and even mentored several students himself. In addition, Jose took on a job coaching the JV lacrosse team. His position as the JV coach became a new passion and sparked joy in his life.

It was no surprise to Vanessa when he later offered to coach the women’s club lacrosse team at UM, and soon after began coaching girl’s lacrosse at Palmer Trinity. So much of their time at UM revolved around education, sports, and supporting young adults. They began to put their passions of education in writing. While on a plane headed to their college annual friends trip they drafted a business plan for Miami Vibe.

They knew they couldn’t fail at this and would help countless students and families. Their combined experience made them a dynamic team. Vanessa’s resume included experience in programming, crisis management, conduct, faculty partnerships, student activities, residential life, team building, leadership, and supervision. Jose’s career experience included business development, team building, marketing, fund raising, supervision, leadership, and sales. Their talents would take them to where they are today; the charismatic coaches of Miami Vibe. While living on a college campus that invented swagger was certainly a vibe, higher education also became the answer to their success.

Lessons Learned in College
Always speak with passion in your tone, if you want people to do something.
If you want to do something, ask someone who has done it before and do it better.
Always apply for the job, the worst they can say is no.
